Dr Antonio Luna Alcalá is a radiologist and Scientific Director of HT Médica, where he leads the company’s scientific strategy, promoting research, innovation, evidence generation and the integration of new imaging technologies into clinical practice. His career combines clinical activity, research, education and scientific leadership at both national and international level.
He holds a PhD in Medicine and Surgery, Cum Laude, and is a specialist in Diagnostic Radiology. Throughout his career, he has developed extensive scientific and academic activity, with a particular focus on advanced magnetic resonance imaging, oncologic imaging, quantitative and functional imaging, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in diagnostic imaging.
One of his current areas of focus is the development and clinical evaluation of next-generation imaging technologies, particularly ultra-high-field 5-T MRI and photon-counting computed tomography (PCCT). At HT Médica, he promotes the development of protocols and clinical evidence aimed at identifying the scenarios in which these technologies can provide meaningful differential value.
His scientific activity includes publications, research projects, teaching and regular participation as an invited speaker at national and international congresses and scientific meetings. In 2026, he has presented HT Médica’s experience in 5-T MRI and PCCT at several international scientific forums, including United Imaging regional symposia in New York, Chicago and San Francisco, as well as the XXIX Antioquian Seminar of Radiology.
He is also actively involved in the international radiology editorial and scientific community and has been recognised by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) for his contribution to radiology education, receiving the Lifetime Honored Educator Award.
As a member of the BAIS 2026 leadership team, he contributes to the development of the academic programme and to the opening of the meeting with the session “Instituts Guirado and HT Médica: a New Platform for Advanced Imaging in Catalonia”, introducing the scientific and technological framework for the programme.
